Kristen Faison

Hi there-

It's so nice to meet you!

My name is Kristen.

I’ve been tutoring chemistry for 15 years, and helping students finally feel confident in chemistry is honestly one of my favorite things in the world. I’ve worked with hundreds of students from universities all across the U.S. and Canada, and no matter where they’re studying, I see the same thing again and again: chemistry isn’t “too hard” — it’s just often taught in a way that doesn’t click yet.

My goal is to change that.

I specialize in breaking down complex topics into clear, manageable steps, helping students understand the why, not just memorize formulas. Whether it’s General Chemistry, exam prep, or building better study habits, I focus on teaching strategies that save time, reduce stress, and actually work in real classes and real exams.

I truly believe that everyone can succeed in chemistry with the right support, and I love watching students go from overwhelmed and frustrated to confident and proud of their progress (those “ohhh, that makes sense now!” moments never get old).

When you work with me or use my resources, you’re not just getting explanations — you’re getting someone who genuinely cares about your success and wants you to walk away feeling capable, prepared, and empowered.

If chemistry has ever made you feel stuck, discouraged, or convinced you’re “just not a science person,” you’re in the right place. I’m so glad you’re here

Questions you might have...

Do you offer 1 on 1 tutoring?

Sometimes. 1 on 1 tutoring is based on my schedule for that particular term. However, you can join the Chem Club Chemmunity and The Chem simplified course to get support. If you need 1 on 1 support you are welcome to reach out to me via email Kristen@stemwithkristen.com

Who do you work with?

I work primarily with college students taking General Chemistry (Chem 1 & 2 / introductory chemistry), including pre-med, nursing, engineering, and other STEM majors. I also support motivated high school students taking AP or honors chemistry.

What makes your approach different from other tutors?

I focus on understanding first, memorization second. Instead of just walking through problems, I teach you how to think through chemistry questions, recognize patterns, avoid common mistakes, and study more efficiently — so you can get better results in less time.

Do I need to already be “good at chemistry” to work with you?

Not at all. Many of my students come to me feeling overwhelmed, behind, or convinced they’re “bad at chemistry.” My job is to meet you where you are and help you build confidence step by step.

Can you help if I’m already behind in my class?

Yes — this is very common. We’ll prioritize the most important topics, fill in gaps efficiently, and create a plan that helps you catch up without feeling overwhelmed.

I’ve tried tutoring before and it didn’t help. What if this doesn’t work for me?

That’s something I hear often — and usually it means the tutoring wasn’t the right fit. My approach focuses on clarity, efficiency, and confidence, not rushing through problems. If chemistry hasn’t clicked yet, that doesn’t mean it won’t.

Why is your site called STEM with Kristen and not Chem with Kristen?

Valid question! The thing is I have actually tutored different Math and Physics courses in the past. I've just worked with more Chemistry students. I plan to expand to offer resources for other courses in the future, but for now I am focusing on Chemistry.
